Alpha-methylstyrene, commonly referred to as AMS is a water white purified alpha methylstyrene/styrene monomer based hydrocarbon resin. The resin is transparent and has good chemical resistance, improve heat resistance and has excellent UV resistance and thermal stability. Due to its excellent balance of properties, it is used in formulations for a various applications, such as SBS/SIS based pressure sensitive adhesives, solvent based adhesives, EVA hot-melt adhesives, sealants, coatings and plastic and rubber compounds.
| Grade | Softening Point | Color Hazen |
|---|---|---|
| MKorez MK-100 | 95 -105°C | Max. 30 |
| MKorez MK-115 | 110 – 120°C | Max. 30 |
| MKorez MK-140 | 135 – 145°C | Max. 30 |
The choice of using alpha-methylstyrene (AMS) depends on specific application requirements. Alternatives may include other monomers or chemicals with similar properties, depending on the desired characteristics and environmental conditions. The selection is influenced by factors such as reactivity, chemical resistance, adhesion, and cost considerations. AMS is preferred when its unique combination of properties is essential for the application.
