The innovative and sustainable cooperation between Fredman Group and De Monchy InternationalWax paper: the result of an innovative and sustainable cooperation between Fredman Group and De Monchy International
In the services of the Finnish company Fredman Group, two things are central: "the kitchen" and sustainability. Everything is focused on sustainable solutions, services and products for both private and commercial kitchens. Examples of products supplied by Fredman Group are baking paper, coffee filters, cardboard packaging (for take-away) and baking molds in all shapes and sizes. Since January, Fredman Group has expanded its range with a new product: wax paper.
This product has been launched on the consumer market with the main goal of preserving food in a sustainable way and guaranteeing the quality of the food. However, that is not all and only the visible end result. The development of this product is preceded by a cooperation between Fredman Group and De Monchy International that focuses on innovation and sustainability.
Wax paper: the result of an innovative and sustainable cooperation between Fredman Group and De Monchy International
Timo Ouwendijk, Business Unit Manager Waxes De Monchy International: “The first contact between De Monchy International and Fredman Group took place about 3 years ago. I was approached by a Fredman Group intern who was researching sustainable packaging. She was specifically interested in Carnauba wax for the packaging industry. Because of the extremely hard structure of Carnauba wax, my first thought was don’t do it. However, I was also triggered right away. Producing wax paper with Carnauba as a protective layer would be a great development. As a result, the contact has intensified and we eventually started working together. In retrospect, this has definitely been a good choice. The innovative character of the organizations is characteristic of both Fredman Group and De Monchy International. We both take innovative requests and questions from the market seriously. This ensures a good match and excellent cooperation, which ultimately resulted in a new product.”
Jens Rosenqvist, Development and Design Director (Non-Digital Solutions) Fredman Group: “The entire cooperation with De Monchy International stems from customer requests. The idea to develop wax paper comes from the market. Wax paper basically resembles baking paper. However, it is special because the paper is provided with a layer of wax on one side. The wax ensures that no moisture gets through the packaging. This allows food to be stored or carried in a natural way. The material is completely based on natural ingredients. De Monchy International takes care of the supply of the waxes. We work with them because the waxes they provide are sustainable. As a result, the cooperation with De Monchy International fits in perfectly with the sustainable ambitions and strategy of Fredman Group.”

Timo: “Fredman Group only works with parties that consider sustainability to be of paramount importance. For this reason, we received a lot of questions about the origin of our wax. At De Monchy International we have been transparent from the start. We gave Fredman Group insight in the Carnauba wax supply chain and shared all available information and documents. In this way we have made the production process and all those involved in the chain transparent. De Monchy International's open attitude has played an important role in the choice of Fredman Group to work with us.”
Jens: “At Fredman Group we always research the origin of the products we use. This also applies to the wax we receive from De Monchy International. We do this in order to ensure that the products (and suppliers) of De Monchy International are sustainable. This is a requirement for us. We want to know where our suppliers get their products from and we want to be sure that they deal with this in a sustainable way. It is not easy to find suppliers who meet our sustainability requirements. However, with De Monchy International we have found a reliable supplier that meets this requirements. We are very satisfied with this.”
The transparency of De Monchy International about the supply chain has been decisive in the emergence of the cooperation Timo Ouwendijk, Business Unit Manager Waxes De Monchy International
Timo: “The cooperation has been succesful to both Fredman Group and De Monchy International. For Fredman Group this led to a new product and new application. On the other hand, De Monchy International gained many insights about what Carnauba can do in the packaging industry. We hope to benefit from the cooperation for a long time to come.”
